RUN AWAY is the 5th annual Walk/Run to benefit Hannah Home Shelby.  Hannah Home Shelby is a 13,000 square foot Christ-centered home that serves the needs of abused women and their children.  It is a ministry of the King’s Ranch and Hannah Homes. This home serves the Greater Birmingham area by providing long-term care, spiritual healing, and a loving environment.

Each year Hannah Home Shelby Auxiliary sets out to raise $100,000 for the operating expenses of Hannah Home Shelby, a home for abused and homeless women and children fleeing domestic violence.  Many of our Auxiliary members are also members at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen Health & Wellness and One Nineteen was excited to partner with us in hosting an event to help with this commitment.  A walk or a race at their facility was agreed upon and has become an annual event.

In 2007, we were hoping to have a race, but the race calendar was booked, so we decided to have a One Mile Walk/Run that first year.  We raised over $20,000 in sponsorships and pledges and the participation was more than we expected.

We were able to get on the race calendar for 2008, so we expanded the walk and added the 8K race.  Greystone Founders allowed us to travel through the gates of Greystone .  With their support, along with St. Vincent’s One Nineteen, we had 100 runners and 100 walkers and raised $20,000.

In 2009, we had some exciting updates, as this event continued to grow.  This race was selected as the RRCA State 8K Championship and we doubled our runner participation and raised $23,000.  With growing support in the community, we have a vision that one day "Run Away . . . From Domestic Violence" will raise over $100,000 for women and children in need.

In 2010, the 8K Race beginning at One Nineteen Health and Wellness was designated as the RRCA Southern Region 8K Championship Race.  The weather was perfect, attendance was strong, and we again raised over $20,000 for the cause.

2011 Race: Thank you for supporting the race and volunteering. Our Run Away Race is growing every year. We had the most participants ever with more than 300 runners, and raised about $20,000 for Hannah Home Shelby! A big thanks to St. Vincent's One Nineteen, race founder Amy Reese and co-chairs Angela Dunn and Mandy Cox.
